COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
OPAQUES, PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM-PLATE RETOUCHING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-0-22039C.
This description covers opaques in paste form intended for use in retouching photographic films or plates.
Salient characteristics.
Design. The opaques shall be colloidal dispersion of opaque pigment; water shall be used as a thinning agent. The opaques shall not separate or crystallize. The opaque shall prevent the transmission of light thru the plate when applied and dried.
Pigment, form, and packaged units. The opaque pigment, form and packaged units shall be as shown below:

Working properties. The opaques shall brush freely and smoothly with no tendency to pull.
Drying. After drying, the opaques shall not be sticky, leave no mark when touched by the finger, and shall not wipe off.
Paste opaque thinning. Opaques shall thin to a uniform consistency.
Removal. The opaques shall not separate, crystallize or become lumpy while in storage, and shall not be cracked, chipped, broken, split, or unable to be opened when removed from storage.
